Oupa Manyisa was ruled out with injury as Bafana Bafana prepare for their final Group C clash against Ghana at Mongomo Stadium on Tuesday. The midfielder was included as a substitute in the match day squad; however he was withdrawn after he sustained an injury knock at training on Monday. The medical team were hoping that he would recover in time for the match, but that was not to be.
Bafana Bafana have been plagued with a spate of injuries in this Africa Cup of Nations, with defender Rivaldo Coetzee and Thulani Hlatshwayo being forced replacements due to injury in the first two matches.
After two matches, South Africa is bottom of the table with just one point following a draw with Senegal and a loss in their opening match against Algeria. Ephraim Shakes Mashaba said their clash with Ghana would be a very interesting match for many reasons, because both teams go into this encounter needing a victory to enhance their chances of qualification into the quarterfinals.
Top of the group Senegal and second placed Algeria meet in the other Group C clash in Malabo and the two matches kick off simultaneously, while Ghana is third on the standings with three points after their famous victory over Algeria.
Bafana Bafana will have to defeat Ghana to stand any chance of progressing to the last eight, while hoping for a Senegal to do them half the job with a victory over Algeria.
