The South African National ranking for fencing were finalised and released following the Natal Open 2015 which took place in Durban over the Valentines Weekend.
The ranking shows Sello Maduma triumphantly taking back the number spot, after his recovery from a shoulder injury, which saw him going into the tournament ranked fifth. Joseph Maluleke and Manyane Sefularo are now ranked in second and third place respectively. While African Junior Champs 2014 runner up Adam Schroeder is ranked 4, eight points before Thulani Manzini of Soweto Fencing Club at number five.
In terms of clubs, it was Tuks Pretoria Club which made a strong showing in the ranking by claiming six spots in the top twenty, while Soweto Fencing Club ata close second with four spots in the top twenty.
The rankings are significant in the fencing season, as they make up an important component for the selection criteria for the national team. The team which will be announced in due course will be representing South Africa at the Cairo African Championship in June 2015, while the World Championships to be held in Moscow are scheduled in the second half of the year.
