Ephraim Mashaba, South Africa national coach has named his squad to play in two friendlies against Swaziland and Nigeria during the international break.
Bafana Bafana will play Swaziland on Wednesday at Lobamba’s Somhlolo Stadium (kick-off: 19h00), before hosting the Super Eagles at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Sunday at 15h30.
Bafana coach Ephraim Mashaba said: “We have called up 30 players and have covered every position, so we will not replace any of those who are unable to come to camp. I think it is also a blessing in disguise in that we will be able to test out the players we have called-up – for instance Dean has been playing with Andile [Jali] in the middle of the park, so it would be great to see who else could fill in that role. To be frank we would have loved to have all players available but seeing it is not possible we have to move on.”
In his list Mashaba had handed maiden call-ups to Thapelo Morena, Cole Alexander, Daniel Cardoso, Lebogang Phiri, Thabo Mnyamane and Black Leopards striker Siphelele Ntshangase
The men to lost their places are Darren Keet, Bernard Parker, Themba Zwane, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Thamsanqa Sangweni, Bongani Ndulula and Patrick Phungwayo. Phungwayo is reportedly still recovering from the injury sustained in the Bafana Bafana camp ahead of the 2015 AFCON earlier this year.
A few players have been recalled after failing to make Mashaba’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations squad. These are Khune, Serero, Patosi and Mokotjo who returns to international contention after a lengthy exclusions.
Furthermore the team was scheduled to depart for Swaziland today but were forced to postpone their trip as some players are only expected to arrive tonight. These are the Denmark-based Lebogang Phiri, as well as Holland-based Thulani Serero and Kamohelo Mokotjo. The team will however be without the injured midfielder Mahlangu and defender Ngcongca.
Dean Furman was excused from the team at the request of his club Doncaster Rovers FC. The team doctor Thulani Ngwenya confirmed that Mahlangu is recovering a fractured metatarsal and has been released from camp to recover.
