Jean de Villiers will captain South Africa at the Rugby World Cup to be held in England from mid-September. Mark Alexander of SARU made this known when he revealed the 31-man Springbok squad at the team hotel in Umhlanga on Friday evening.
The global showpiece will be hosted by England from September 18 to October 31
Francois Pienaar’s victory in 1995 and John Smith in 2007 are what Jean de Villiers is tasked to live up to come September 18th as the world seeks to conquer the Holy Grail, the William Webb Ellis Trophy.
South Africa have been drawn in Pool B along with Samoa, Scotland, Japan and the United States. Their first match will be on Saturday, September 19, against Japan at the Brighton Community Stadium, Brighton.
