Day 3: Road trip in the East and West Cape

Day 3: Road trip in the East and West Cape

Day 3 started as it should. Very late. There was a detailed debriefing session until we decided to break the fast with some fish. They call it “fish on the rocks,” True to its heritage, the joint remains an old school fish and chips shop on Harbor road in Houtbay. I remember being there over ten years ago. With colleagues talking about four skin-divers and calamari. Today, the place is still rocking. I had the snoek which goes down like a dream with their chili sauce. But I should also recommend the hake, calamari, and prawns combo. It’s another winner.
The next spot was Bilboa in Camps Bay for some dessert. Frank was our guy, looked after us like we were the only people in the room. I recommend their cheesecake. In fact, I plan to go back there just or that. The conversation was all over. But I learned that some body parts don’t have to have a bone to break.
For Sundowners a friend invited us to investigate the Baptise. A nice rooftop place with a pool and overlooks the sea. If you can think of the hotel pool party scene in Blood and Water. Or if you are too old to watch that, just think of a rooftop party scene with Don Johnson in Miami Vice. That’s the setup. If you go take a jersey because the Cape Doctor can make it uncomfortable. But somehow the summer dresses make it okay, take my word for it.
For dinner, we had some pizza at Yesterday opposite Jan van Riebeeck P.S. on Kloof. Now that place is all about the music. The restaurant is adorned with the most amazing LP collection on the walls for sale. The food is okay, and Memory made us feel at home. But the music, wow. The music went down like wine paired perfectly with a gourmet meal. From bag lady to Lauren Hill’s miseducation, from India Arie to Ronald Isely and Geral Levert. It was like waking up to the soothing sounds of Msizi Shembe’s late-night radio show on YFM, at the turn of the century.  By then with the curfew in mind, we had to make tracks. We had a long day tomorrow so we needed the rest. #obzevastory
